Old Sacramento

Recently furnished with a water-front Farris wheel, Old Sacramento State Historic Park has something for everyone in the family.

The historic park stretches over a large area that was once a major business center in Sacramento in the 1850s.

Visitors from around the world come for the niche museums, riverboat rides, railroad museums, horse carriage rides, dining, train rides, shopping and nightlife.

Plan your trip today with this handy guide.

California State Railroad Museum

Located within Old Sacramento, the Railroad Museum is a popular and busy destination. Visitors are transported to an era during the start of the railroad revolution – and have an opportunity to get a taste of 20th-century life.

Visitors can hop on a 50-minute rail trip that takes them along the Sacramento River. The train is powered by historic steam or diesel locomotives and is the perfect introduction and hands-on experience of the amazing world of trains.

Crocker Art Museum

Discovery awaits you at the famous Crocker Art Museum in downtown Sacramento.

No other collection compares with Crocker Art’s California art, European drawings and international ceramics. You’ll walk away inspired and impressed by fine displays and art in various mediums.

Along with its exquisite diversity of rotating exhibitions, events, concerts and lectures, Crocker Art also prioritizes art education and offers four classrooms, a library, community exhibits and other resources to learn and absorb the beautiful and exhilarating world of art.

American River Bike Trail

The American Bike Trails spans more than 30 miles between Discovery Park in Old Sacramento and Beal’s Point near Folsom Lake. If you decide to tackle it in its entirety, here’s a map to help you plan your ride.

Also known as Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail, riders will find a fully paved ride with two lanes and plenty of points of interest along the way.  The access points are gateways to several parks, opens spaces, fishing, picnic areas, golf courses, equestrian amenities, other trails, beaches, boat ramps and so much more.

Fairytale Town

Open a window of imagination and enchantment for the youngest ones in your family with an escape to Fairytale Town at William Land Park.

The 2.5-acre play area and children’s museum has charmed and delighted generations of children by bringing the most famous nursery rhymes to life.

With more than 25 play areas and activities, a friendly flock of farm animals, performing arts stages and several gardens, Fairytale Town makes learning so much fun. You can also take in the nearby playgrounds, golf course, picnic areas, sports fields, theme park, zoo and other attractions at William Land Park.

Sac Brew Bike

Spend the weekend with some libations and maybe a little perspiration while riding on Sac Brew Bike.

You and your friends can jump on a multi-person bike and embark on a cycle to some of Sacramento’s best pubs and dining.

Everyone on board pedals while your guide helps steer the group to your next destination.

Broadway Sacramento

Take in a big show, like Wicked, at Broadway Sacramento. This is Northern California’s premier producer and presenter of musical theater. Patrons can enjoy Broadway At Music Circus and Broad On Tour, two adjoining venues that deliver on quality and entertaining theatrical productions.

Current shows include Wicked, Tootsie, Come From Away, Kinky Boots, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, Kiss Me Kate, Something Rotten, The Secret Garden and The Color Purple.

State Capitol

Tour California’s central place of government business, the State Capitol Building.

You’ll be stunned by all the beauty of the Neoclassical architecture. The building was constructed in the 1860s but underwent a major renovation about 100 years later. Nevertheless, the building’s most historically significant features were preserved and shine brightly even today.

You’re welcome to visit for a tour, where you’ll get to see some historic attractions, including a Vietnam War Memorial, art works, portraits of every California governor, the capitol park complex and other attractions.

River Cats

Nothing quite says warm weather than baseball and hotdogs. If you’re a fan, then head out to the beautiful Sutter Health Park, home to the Sacramento River Cats, the triple A affiliate of the Oakland A’s.

Single-game tickets are available and regular season runs through the end of September, so there’s plenty of time to get out to the ballgame.

California State Fair

It’s back. The California State Fair and Food Festival 2022 returns this July for two exciting weeks of family entertainment, food showcases, consumer good presentations, music, animal exhibitions and many other forms of entertainment and attractions that are suitable for the entire family.
