5 Health Benefits of Playing Pickleball

Pickleball is a fast-growing sport that’s good for both your physical and mental health. It’s a simple game to learn and appropriate for individuals of all ages, making it an enjoyable sport for families and communities.

And if you are looking for an active adult community in Galt that has pickleball courts, make sure you check out Dry Creek Oaks!

How pickleball works

  1. Equipment: To participate in a game of pickleball, it is essential to possess three key items: a paddle, a plastic ball with holes and access to a pickleball court. The court is specifically designed for pickleball and is slightly smaller than a tennis court, but about the same size as a doubles badminton court, measuring 20 x 44 feet.
  2. Serve: The game begins with the server standing behind the baseline serving underhand diagonally to the opponent’s court. Like ping pong, the ball must land in the opposite diagonal section of the court, and the first serve of each point must be made from the right-hand side of the court.
  3. Return: After the ball is served, the ball must bounce once before the receiver can return it. In contrast to tennis, the ball in pickleball is required to be hit diagonally back to the server’s court.
  4. Rally: Players continue to hit the ball back and forth after the serve and return until it lands outside the court’s boundaries or if a player misses the shot.
  5. Scoring: Only the serving team scores points, and usually, games are played until 11 points. To win, a player must secure a lead of two points.
